Dear Gloria Dei family

Dear Gloria Dei family,

This summer, we’ve had a lot of people helping with physical labor around the church – cleaning, moving, building, repairing, tearing down, and building up. My thanks to so many volunteers! We’re almost done with the heavy lifting!

Also, this Sunday, we welcome another pianist/organist to lead us in worship and on August 27, we welcome back Van Nguyen to sing and play for us. That will be a great way to finish up the summer.

The Gospel for Sunday (Matthew 16) has the disciples not remembering, again, and again. In response to their forgetfulness, Jesus reminds them of the miracle of the Feeding of the 5000 and the Feeding of the 4000. So, in preparation for Sunday’s message, I’m thinking a lot about what I forget. That’s many things and I’m not talking about little, everyday sorts of things, but major happenings.

As a nation, this past couple of weeks, I’m wondering if a group in our country has forgotten that we fought WWII to defeat the Nazis? Having recently returned from Germany, there will all sorts of monuments to never forget. Remembering is important.

How about you? Have you forgotten anything important – a birthday, anniversary, meeting? Besides those sort of things, what’s important for your living to remember? Every Sunday, we hear the words, “Do this in remembrance of me…” Remembering the right things is life-empowering.

See you Sunday,

Pastor David
