EPIPHANY MESSAGES

5 GIFTS OF DISCIPLESHIP – In January and February (Season of Epiphany) – we examine what it means to “living our baptism” in practical ways. The 5 Gifts of Discipleship are:

  1. Live among God’s faithful people; 2. hear the word of God and share in the Lord’s Supper; 3. proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed; 4. serve all people following the example of Jesus; and 5. strive for justice and peace in all the earth.

We focus on these 5 responses to God’s love. There will be lots of messages, Bible studies, songs, emails, events, which will all help us focus, stay awake spiritually.

Dear Gloria Dei

Dear Gloria Dei family,    This Sunday is “Baptism of Our Lord Sunday” – the Season of Epiphany. For the next month, we begin a new sermon series based on the promises we make at baptism – “The Five Gifts of Discipleship.” At baptism, the pastor asks, will you…

  • live among God’s faithful people;
  • hear the word of God and share in the Lord’s supper;
  • proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed;
  • serve all people following the example of Jesus;
  • strive for justice and peace in all the earth.

We’ll look at those themes and how we respond to God’s grace.   Loving God, help us “to live among God’s faithful people,” even when it’s difficult, knowing that You promise to be present. When we get distracted by our own notions of what community should be, or when we get distracted by secondary things, show us the cross, remind us of what’s important and help us all to always focus on Your gracious invitation to belong; in Jesus’ name. Amen.   See you Sunday, Pastor David
